Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Versus the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their maiden championship series following the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.

Down by two runs, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the series. They will now face the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, the nation," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an incredible feeling."

George Springer has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, making him third all-time trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment besides George Springer with his October magic," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.

Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their work in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the wrong side of this game," he continued.

The Blue Jays claimed the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
