Emma Raducanu concludes the current season and plans to retain coach for 2026.
Emma Raducanu reached the third round in three of the four major tournaments in the current campaign.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her remaining competitions of the year as a result of the illness she has been battling for the last week and a half.
The 22-year-old was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to rest and recuperate ahead of launching plans for the 2026 season.
These plans will involve coach Francisco Roig, as the pair have decided to continue collaborating again next season.
Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring while playing the initial match against Ann Li in Wuhan last week and retired when losing 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
She again required medical attention at this week's Ningbo Open, where she was defeated in three sets to local wildcard Zhu Lin in the first round.
Raducanu was also moving far from freely in the deciding set against Zhu due to back discomfort that has been a concern during parts of the season.
Such performances followed a positive campaign, in which the player advanced into the top 30 globally after more than three years since her previous ranking, finished with a trio of defeats.
She held three match points prior to falling to Pegula in round three in the Beijing tournament last month.
Raducanu won 28 matches in the current season and advanced to the semis in the Washington tournament, but her most impressive week was at the Miami Open in March.
The British number one made the last eight of this WTA 1000 tournament, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way then falling in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth.
She worked with trainer Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig taking over for the US Open.
The initial agreement with the former trainer of Nadal was until the end of the season but the partnership will continue, with a training block pencilled in late this year.
The athlete revealed that a three-day test period with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.
She came very close to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their initial event as a team in Cincinnati in August.
The coach also accompanied Raducanu in New York, where she reached the third round before being beaten by Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
