Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the US has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.

It said wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
