Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
