The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
