Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
