• A cap on rents for approximately 1 million households
• A pilot of city-run grocery stores

The estimated $10 billion cost of these services may pose a hurdle to secure. Mamdani has pledged to tax more heavily the city's top earners and big business. However, as a municipality under the authority of the state government, he will require the backing of Governor Kathy Hochul.

Managing External Dynamics

The new mayor also faces concern from some members of the Jewish community concerned about his past stances regarding Israel. Tensions were revealed during the transition when a appointments director resigned over offensive past comments.
